About my class:
My class consists of reading and writing with a dash of spelling!! As a struggling reader when I was young, my goal is to help each child feel confident in their ability and give them strategies to help them improve their skills. Students on the Black Team also participate in Reading Buddies with first graders from Willard North every Friday. This gives them an opportunity to practice fluency through reading aloud, as well as builds confidence as the older more experienced readers. It is something both levels look forward to each week and is so rewarding and beneficial!!
Keep watching the blog for some fabulous links to sites that your child can practice the skills we work on in class at home!!
I welcome parent volunteers and readers, so let me know if you are available to come by and share your favorite book with the class sometime!!

Here is our awesome online writing site you can use to make your own picture books. Find art and words that inspire you to write, or challenge yourself by clicking on a challenge story.
Vocabulary can be fun
This interactive site has several vocabulary games that students can play at home or school. Students can play games ranging from Analogies to Foreign Language to Idioms to Typing. Check out this cool resource!
Into the Book
When visiting this top rated site students can practice comprehension strategies that they are taught in Comm. Arts class. There is an option to turn on sound so they can follow along as it is read to them.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a site where kids can read a journal (not a diary) of a 7th grader. This popular “novel in cartoons” is written notebook style. It is funny and easy to read. There are links to other educational and fun sites from this one!
Wacky Web Tales
This website is the online equivalent to Mad Libs. Kids will first select a story, then choose words which fill in the blanks in the story. The resulting silly story is fun to read aloud, and to see how the word choices work within the story.
Chicktionary
This word-making game is a favorite on our class iPad; the kids all love it! The player receives a group of letters; he/she must fill “egg crates” with words of various numbers of letters to earn points. Try a non-word or repeat a word and the chickens all squawk.
